W.H. "Bill" Cowden, Jr. of Kent, Texas and Midland, Texas passed away on July 3, 
2010 at the age of 80 years. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday July 
31, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Van Horn with Rev. Alan F. Cunningham of San 
Angelo officiating. A private family interment will be held at the family ranch in Kent, 
Texas. 

Bill was County Commissioner, a deputy Sheriff and a Justice of the Peace for Jeff 
Davis County. He served on the Board of Trustees and was past president of Bloys 
Campmeeting Association and served on the board of Directors and was past 
President of Rio Grand Electric Cooperative. Bill served on the Soil Conservation 
board, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Toyah Limpia Soil and Water 
Conservation District. Mr. Cowden was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in 
Van Horn. 

He is survived by his wife Mary Alice; two daughters: Lou Cowden Edwards and 
husband Tim of Kent and Lynne Cowden Gibson of Ketchum Idaho; one son Dr. 
William Lee Cowden and wife Nancy of Mertzon, Texas; one sister Nell Cowden King 
of San Antonio; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Josephine Cowden Mareck. 

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials be made to the Bloys Campmeeting 
Association at 18120 State Highway 166, Fort Davis, TX 79734.
