Mr. Stokes
Robert Wilson "Bobby" Stokes III, age 66, died Wednesday evening, March 16 at his 
home in Blowing Rock.
Mr. Stokes was born November 9, 1938 in Charlotte, a son of the late Robert Wilson 
Stokes, Jr., and Julia Jackson Stinson Stokes. After retiring from Johnston Mills 
Company, he spent a number of seasons in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he 
enjoyed playing golf with friends at Wachesaw Plantation. In 1999 he and his wife, 
Joy, moved to Blowing Rock where they became year around residents.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Joyce Williams Stokes; one 
daughter, Gay Stieber and husband Jeff, of Charlotte; one son, Robert "Bobby" 
Stokes IV and wife Nikki, of Charlotte; three grandsons, Tyler, Christopher and Turner 
Stieber; a sister, Nona Stokes of Columbia, South Carolina; and two brothers-in-law, 
R. Gaylord Williams, Jr. of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Reed Williams II of 
Richmond, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, 
Everet Williams.
A memorial service for Mr. Stokes was conduced on Saturday, March 19th at St. Mary 
of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock. Officiating was Father Rick Lawler.
The family acknowledges with loving appreciation the care of Barbara, Kristal, and 
Teresa of Hospice, and the assistance of Ed Walterman.
Austin & Barnes Funeral Home of Boone was in charge of the arrangements.
