Barbara Ann Rumel Owens passed away at her home in Sandy, Utah, on October 27, 
2001. She was born September 21, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Dr. William Ray 
Rumel and Evangeline Ruth Daugherty. She was raised in Salt Lake City. She married 
Sheridan Lewis Owens in the Salt Lake City Temple, and is the mother of five children. 
She graduated from Idaho State University with a bachelor's degree in nursing, and 
received a master's degree of nursing from BYU. She loved working as an Emergency 
Room "trauma" nurse. She was a nursing educator at Ricks College and BYU, and 
was Department Head of Health Science at the LDS Business College. She enjoyed 
being a BYU Education Week speaker, and was currently instructor of Continuing 
Education with the Jordan School District. She was a faithful member of The Church 
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mount Jordan 7th Ward, where she served in 
many capacities, including Relief Society president. She was currently serving with 
her husband as mission coordinators for the LDS Family Services - Substance Abuse 
Recovery Mission. Survivors include her husband, Sheridan Lewis Owens; children, 
John D. Owens, Sherri Loree Whitehead, Dennis Ray Owens, Ellyn Anne Franks, Mary 
Anne Fowler; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Steven Ray Rumel, William Dale Rummel; 
and sister, Bevery Rumel McDaniels. Family Tribute
