IRA BAKER, son of Nathan and Hannah Baker, was born in Otsego county, new York, 
February 26, 1815, and removed with his parents to Tioga county, Pennsylvania, in 
1827. Soon after arriving at manhood he took up and cleared a farm in Chatham 
township, about a mile south of the old homestead. Here he remained until 1852, when 
he returned to the old homestead in Deerfield, settled by his father in 1828, and there 
died September 23, 1894. He married Lydia Philley, a daughter of Luman and Eunice 
(Coburn) Philley, pioneers of Deerfield township. Three children were born to this 
union, viz: Laura, wife of Timothy Hastings; Allen, and Alta M., wife of Welch 
Reynolds. Mr. Baker was a member of the Christian church, and in politics, a 
Republican.
