At 14 removed with father Rev Caleb Douglass, to Gorham NY. In 1830 baptized into 
Baptist church. For 30 years faithful, burden bearing deacon of the church of Gorham. 
Helped build current church. In 1865 moved to Penn Yan NY where he was 
instrumental in building the church. In 1872 went to Peabody Kans to live with sons, 
and again helped build a church. Then moved to Sun City, Kans. Chief characteristic 
was industry. Was an omnivourous reader, had remarkable memory, and his mind was 
a storehouse of social, political and religious information.
