 Verda Sylvia Nielson Pierce, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in 
American Fork. Her loving family surrounded her. She was born on April 17, 1922 in 
Hollister, Idaho, to Archie W. Nielson and Sylvia Webb Nielson. 

 She married Max Pierce on August 14, 1939. Verda was a very hard worker and 
labored long hours to help support her family. She worked at the Pleasant Grove 
Canning Company, 24 Hour Drive-in in Provo, the Riverside Country Club in Provo, 
and she retired from the American Fork Hospital after 20 years of service. She was a 
great cook and loved having her family around to share a meal. She loved camping 
and fishing. She was a beautiful person and remained committed to her family all of 
her life. 

 She is survived by her children, Sterling (Corrine) Pierce, Monte (Aleece) Pierce, 
Vickie (John) Richins, and Tammie Long; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 10 
great great grandchildren, 2 great great great grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (Penny) 
Nielson. 

 She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Max Pierce; grandson, Eric 
Long; granddaughter, Kristina Collins. 

 Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 5th at 11 am at the Battle Creek 7th 
Ward, 1106 E. 200 S., Pleasant Grove, where a Viewing will be held prior from 9:30 
am to 10:45 am. Interment in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
