On April 7, 1920, Emil married Hazel Alison Thomas of Hemlock. The minister was 
Rev. S. Arthur Cook. Hazel, born September 16, 1897, in Richland County, was a 
daughter of William Delmont Thomas (born 1867; died 1913), and Madge E. Dunbar 
(born 1878; died 1926) 

William Dell and Madge had three daughters in addition to Hazel; Zella (born 1900), 
Beulah (born 1903; died 1979), and Mildred (born 1912). 

Hazel's paternal grandparents were Alexander Thomas (born 1836; died 1881) and 
Katherine Stoner (born 1839), both buried in unmarked graves adjacent to William Dell 
and Madge in Richland Township Cemetery. 


Alexander Thomas was the brother of Philo Thomas, therefore John Emil Ault and 
Hazel Alison Thomas were second cousins. That information was the whole purpose of 
this book to begin with. Hazel worked for the telephone company in Saginaw, 
Michigan at the time of her marriage, and Emil was a laborer in Hemlock. After their 
marriage Emil and Hazel took up residence on the west side of Saginaw on 
Woodbridge Street.
