Obituary: Viola Hoaas Carter

Gudrun Viola Hoaas Carter, wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother passed 
away Nov. 19, 2003.

She was born Jan. 7, 1915 to Olaf Thorsen and Josephina Petrina Mindii Hoaas in 
Tioga, North Dakota. She married Leland LeRoy Carter July 26, 1945 in the Cardston 
Alberta Canada LDS Temple. He passed away on Jan. 19, 1988.

She was a long time employee of Sprouse Reitz and enjoyed the many friends she met 
while working there. She earned a teaching certificate and served many years in the 
PTA. Viola was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 
having served in many callings which included Primary and Relief Society president.

She had a talent for crocheting and loved making beautiful afghans for family and 
friends.

Viola is survived by her 13 children; daughters: Peggy (Jerry) Melville, Valley, WA; 
Leone (Gene) Hoyt, Chewelah, WA; Myrna Ball, Sandy; sons: Glen (Donna), Shelby, 
M; Murlan (Dee), Cedar City; Lynn (Karen), Draper; Arden (Chris), Lewistown, MT; 
Bruce (Dora), Sandy; LeRoy (Judy), Sandy; Del (Julie), Murray; Lamar (Christy), Sandy; 
Darrol (Barbara), West Valley; Lyle, Salt Lake City; 47 grandchildren, 71 great-grand-
children and 22 great-great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, parents, 
brother, Johan and sister Olga.

Special thanks to Debra Miller for her loving care, the staff of Holladay Home and 
Murray Care Center.

Friends may call Sun. Nov. 23, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins- Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. 
State St., Murray. Interment will be in Shelby, MT. on Tues. Nov. 25, 2003.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
