Thomas, Jane P. (nee Priem), on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Jane was born Mary 
23, 1931 to Evelyn B. and Richard G. Priem in Mayville, Wisconsin. She was the 
beloved wife of Lewis J. Thomas, Jr. for 53 years; caring mother of Sarah Snell and 
Lewis III; devoted grandmother of Lewis IV, James, Peter and Andrew; and dear sister 
of Richard Priem of Cleveland. A graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she continued her studies at Columbia University in New York. 
She provided loving care at many hospitals in Milwaukee, Chicago, New York City and 
St. Louis, including St. John's Mercy and Shriners Hospital for Children. As a 
bibliophile and lover of children's literature, she subsequently guided elementary-
school readers at the Flynn Park School where she began as a volunteer in 1964 and 
was employed as a library aide from 1972 to 1990. For the past 17 years she served as 
an accomplished volunteer conservator at the Library of the Missouri Botanical Garden 
where she received the Commitment Award in 1992 and was honored with a Lifetime 
Achievement Award in 2007. Her extraordinary kindness and devotion to her pursuits 
will be sorely missed.Services: The date and place of a gathering in her honor will be 
announced. Tributes in her memory may be made to the Missouri Botanical Garden 
Library with the specific notation 'Ellerman Challenge' at P.O. Box 299, St. Louis, MO 
63166-0299. The family is being served by Cremation Society of St. Louis. Messages
