Obituary: WESTBORO - Ruth (Mann) Fairbanks, 97, formerly of O'Neil Drive and
Fountainhead Apartments, a retired occupational therapist, died yesterday morning in 
Shrewsb ury Nursing Home. Her husband, Edwin P. Fairbanks, died in 1975. She 
leaves a son, A. Harri s Fairbanks of Coventry, Conn.; four grandchildren; and two 
great-grandchildren. She was bor n in Lowell, daughter of Alden and Elsie (Smith) 
Mann. She was raised and educated in Frank lin, and had lived in Westboro since 
1927. She graduated from Sargeant College, an occupatio nal therapy school affiliated 
with Boston University. Mrs. Fairbanks was an occupational the rapist at Westboro 
State Hospital and the head of its recreational therapy department for ma ny years 
before her retirement. She was a member of Evangelical Congregational Church and t 
he Westboro Women's Club, and volunteered at Memorial Hospital in Worcester for 10 
years . The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Evangelical Congregational 
Church, West Ma in Street. Burial will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery. 
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p .m. tomorrow at Rand & Harper Funeral Home, 62 West Main 
St. In lieu of flowers, memorial co ntributions may be made to the Evangelical 
Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 8 Church St. , Westboro 01581.
