Was in college three years, but on account of failing health, was obliged to seek a 
warmer climate before finishing his course of study; returned from a sojourn in South 
America, and taught in the Classical Department of a university in Pennsylvania; 
afterwards went west in government employ, but later to Texas where he was a civil 
engineer.
