has first marriage in 1847 to Eliza Jane Van Benthuysen (and she is his wife on 1860 
census and in 1870, when they are in Iowa)
So how is he married in 1850 to Martha when she is 16? Could he have married her 
first ... and then she died? They are NOT in 1850 census
Family search says he married Eliza in 1856. Their children b 1859 and thereafter. 
That suggests Martha died early in the marriage.
