GAYS - Nina Jane Ewing, 76, of rural Gays, Illinois, passed away at 8:18 a.m., 
Monday, March 15, 2010, in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center of Coles County, 
Illinois. 

She was born November 25, 1933, in Cumberland County, Illinois, the daughter of 
Rev. Glen E. and Vera B. (Phelps) Groves. Nina married Roger L. Ewing, January 16, 
1954, in Neoga, Illinois. 

Nina was a member of the Zion Hill United Methodist Church, in Paradise Township, 
Coles County, Illinois, she also taught Sunday School and Bible School and was a 
member of the Ladies Aid of the Church. She was the secretary of Ewing's Roto-
Rooter Service which she and her family has owned and operated since 1949. Nina 
loved visiting with her friends and family. She enjoyed music and was always willing to 
help others. 

Nina leaves her husband, Roger L. Ewing of rural Gays, Illinois; three sons, James 
Ewing of rural Gays, Illinois, Dr. Loyd Ewing and wife Cindy of Powell, Tennessee, and 
Samuel Ewing and wife Kim of Neoga, Illinois; one daughter, Peggy Dickerson and 
husband Rev. Keith of Tualatin, Oregon; one brother, Donald D. Groves and wife Ida 
Mae of rural Mattoon, Illinois; four sisters, Patricia Spencer and husband Donald, 
Marilyn Spencer and husband Delbert, all of rural Trilla, Illinois, Carol Blankenship and 
G. Kay Groves, both of Effingham, Illinois; ten grandchildren and one great-
granddaughter. 

Nina was preceded in death by her parents. 

Memorials may be made to the Zion Hill United Methodist Church, or to the Zion Hill 
Cemetery both Paradise Township, Coles County, Illinois. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2010, in the 
Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with Cathy Minor, Richard Shugert, Keith and 
Daniel Dickerson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 
19, 2010, at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Zion Hill Cemetery, north of 
Neoga, Illinois.
