Carl Sparling 

PANA, IL - Carl T. Sparling 90 of Pana, IL, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Thursday March 
16, 2006 at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana. 

 Mr. Sparling was born April 10, 1915 in Clay County near Flora, IL the son of Roscoe 
and Nellie M. Tatman Sparling. 

 He married Violet M. Phelps May 6, 1935 in Mattoon, IL and she passed away Dec. 
23, 1999. 

 Mr. Sparling owned and operated the Dutch Mill in Pana, IL for 37 years. He opened 
the Dutch Mill Discount Center in 1960 and presently operated the Dutch Mill Bargain 
Center. Previously, in the 1930's, he operated Quality Bottling and the Snack Shack 
both in Mattoon. 

 Surviving are daughters Joyce L. Sparling of Decatur, IL, and Karla Sue Stepping of 
Pana; grandchildren: Andrea Stepping-Garcia and husband Joe of Frisco, TX, and 
Philip Carl Stepping and wife Kristina of Linden CA; brothers: Joe Sparling of Hamilton, 
TX, Albert Sparling of Neoga, IL, Ivan Sparling of Bethany, IL; sisters: Sara Easton of 
Clinton, IL and Opal Manning of Shelbyville. 

 He was preceded in death by his wife Violet, son Jackie Joe Sparling, his parents, 
brothers Raymond Sparling and Ray Sparling and sister Dorothy Hopper. 

 Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 24, 2006 in Zion Hill 
Cemetery in Coles County. The Family will visit with friends at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the 
cemetery. Memorials may be made to Donor's Choice. Arrangements are by Lockart-
Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. 

 The family would like to extend a special thank you to Speed Standley, Jerry 
Stepping, Prairie Rose Health Care Center and Quad County Hospice.
