 Stewardson 

 Dwight Verl Bridges, 85, of rural Stewardson, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Monday, 
January 26, 2009, in the Heartland Christian Village of Neoga. 

 Verl was born on November 21, 1923, in Shelby County, Illinois, the son of Boyd and 
Leota ( Cox ) Bridges. He was a retired farmer and a former employee of the New York 
Central Railroad. He married Norma Jean Phelps on June 21, 1947, in Charleston, 
Illinois. Verl was a member and an Elder of the Ash Grove Christian Church of rural 
Windsor, a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, and President of the Upper Ash 
Grove Cemetery board. 

 Mr. Bridges leaves his wife, Norma Jean Bridges of rural Stewardson, Illinois; 
daughter, Sally Verlene Phillips and husband, Douglas, of Columbia, Missouri; two 
brothers, Boyd Bridges, Jr., and wife, Erna, of Charleston, Illinois and James Bridges 
and wife, Barbara, of rural Windsor, Illinois; three sisters, Emma Jean Sanders of rural 
Mattoon, Illinois, Jeanne Ferguson of Mattoon, Illinois and Ann Terry and husband 
George, of Abingdon, Illinois; three grandsons, Jonathan Phillips and wife, Lu, of San 
Francisco, CA; Andrew Hickman of rural Windsor, Illinois and Joseph Hickman of 
Windsor, Illinois: one son-in-law, J. Dennis Hickman of rural Windsor, Illinois. 

 Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Brenda Jean 
Hickman and one granddaughter, Charis Gohil. Memorials may be made to the Ash 
Grove Christian Church of rural Windsor, Illinois. 

 Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009, in the Ash 
Grove Christian Church of rural Windsor, Illinois, with the Rev. Jim Dona and the Rev. 
George Terry officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 
Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at the Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga. 
Illinois. Friends and Relatives may also call one hour before services on Thursday at 
the Church. Burial will be in the Lower Ash Grove Cemetery, Southeast of Windsor, 
Illinois.
