Claire Phelps Chiappini of Melrose died Friday. She was 77.

Mrs. Chiappini was born in St. Louis and had lived in Melrose since 1946. She was the 
owner/broker of Chiappini Realty before retiring.

She was the co-founder and first president of the Melrose Junior Women's Club and 
was instrumental in the purchase of the Melrose Public Beach. She served as 
president of the Melrose Business Association and was a member of the Putnam 
County Board of Realtors. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Eldercare and 
was a mentor at Melrose Community School. She also supported numerous charities.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis David Chiappini. 

Survivors include daughters Lily Blanchet of Gainesville and Heidi C. Bender of 
Bradenton; sons Nick Chiappini of Fort Lauderdale, William Chiappini of Atlanta, and 
David Chiappini, Rob Chiappini and Mark Chiappini, all of Melrose; 17 grandchildren; 
and 15 great-grandchildren.
