enrolled 10 May 1861 Weldon NC, by Capt Wm A Johnston, mustered 6 Jun 1861, 
Garysburg, NC, occ clerk, remark "sick in hospital" followed by several similar 
"attendance" cards, including the same promotion/reduction in rank, then on 
detached service in 1862-3 mid init is W, later cards indicate detached service is 
telegraph operator, was wounded but no details per Jun 1863 notation, seeking appt 
as commisary or master clerk due to wound in left hand at battle of what appears to be 
Malacessn Hill, 1 Jul 1862. Apparently that is how he got telegraph opeator position 
(which he did before war). Later requests food and board while at Rantowle's Station.
Descr grey eyes, light hair, fair complexion, 
wife's death cert has middle initial H.
