At the death of his father, when a young child, he was adopted by an uncle in 
Agawam. In early manhood he decided to make that town his home, and engaged in 
woolen manufacturing. He filled many offices of trust conferred by his fellow citizens, 
and after a long life came down to the grave with eye undimmed and mental vigor 
unabated, honored by all who knew him.  An intelligent observer of events, he formed 
for many years the connecting link between the past and present. He distinctly 
remembered the great grandson of Reice, and to him the author is indebted for many 
items of family history.
