Augustine was a farmer. During World War II, he served with the Army's
Ordinance Division. Augustine was a member of the American Legion, Scottish Rites,
and Order of the Eastern Star.
Augustine was killed during flood rescue operations. For his heroism during
this effort, he was posthumously awarded the Carnegie Medal.
