Freeman Moore Jr. 


A graveside service for Mr. Freeman Moore Jr., 86, will be Wednesday, March 22, at 
11 a.m. at Florence City Cemetery, with Brother Alvin Burbank officiating. Elkins 
Funeral Home is assisting the family. 

 Freeman Moore was born March 24, 1919, and passed away Sunday, March 19, 
2006, at his home. He grew up in North Florence, which at that time was known as 
Needmore. Mr. Moore was a World War II veteran. He was with the U.S. Army 
Company A, 34th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was a construction carpenter while in 
the Army and was stationed at Scoffield Barracks on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu 
when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. 

 After his military service, he became a master carpenter, building many homes in the 
area, including helping with the development of Forest Hills, Hickory Hills and Oak 
Hills subdivisions. 

 He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty O. Moore, and 
brother, Bobby Ray Moore. 

 Mr. Moore was dearly loved and will be missed by all. 

 He is survived by his daughter, Susan Nale; sons, Don Moore and wife, Donna, of 
Arab, Ala., Jim Moore and wife, Barbara, Larry Moore and wife, Sheila, all of Florence; 
grandchildren, Suzanne Catania, Kane Nale, Emily Simons, Misty Dyar, Mandy 
Thomas, Daniel Moore, Kayla James, James Moore and Elizabeth Moore; eight great-
grandchildren; and sister, Betty Myrick. 

 Pallbearers will be Don Moore, Kane Nale, Daniel Moore, James Moore, Chris James, 
Shannon Dyar, Brandon Thomas and Todd Catania. 

 The Moore family would like to thank Dr. Bartmess and his staff and Hospice of the 
Shoals for their loving kindness shown to Freeman.
