William H. Reas, resident of Saratoga, was born in Hermosa Beach CA on September 
23, 1921 and passed away February 21, 2012, at the age of 90. He was the beloved 
husband of Dorothy McGuire for over 59 years; father of Susan, Steve (Paula) & John 
(Marianne); grandfather of Matthew (Kari), Sara (Chad), Elizabeth & Scott; great-
grandfather of Bryce, Dylan, Maxwell & Grace. Bill earned his PhD in Chemistry from 
U.C. Berkeley in 1948 and began his 37-year career working for General Electric 
initially in Richland WA. As a nuclear research chemist, he helped in the development 
of the first atomic bomb under the auspices of the Manhattan Project. While starting 
his young family there, his hobbies were operating a ham radio, developing his own 
darkroom photographs, wood-working and golfing. In 1964, Bill moved his family to 
Monte Sereno where he continued his work with G.E., rising thru the ranks to become 
site manager of the nuclear research center at Vallecitos. Bill always found time for 
family, countless friends and, of course, golf at Pasatiempo & La Rinconadaa game, 
like his life, he enjoyed playing "long & straight." Services will be private. In lieu of 
flowers or cards, Bill would have simply suggested his friends consider treating a 
loved-one to a joyful lunch with a glass of beer or wine.
