Zilla M.B. Grier, 90, of Quarryville, died of natural causes Sunday at Ware 
Presbyterian Village in Oxford.

A Lancaster resident since 1978, she previously lived in Cochranville and had been at 
the Ware home since March. 

Mrs. Grier retired in 1971 after 33 years as an elementary teacher with Octorara Area 
School District.

She earned her bachelor's degree from the former West Chester State College.

A member of Fallowfield Friends Meeting in Ercildoun, she also belonged to the 
Pennsylvania Educators Retirees and American Retired Teachers associations.

She was an avid reader and knitter who made more than 500 sweaters for the 
American Friends Service.

Born in Londonderry, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Eva Virginia 
Maule Baker.

Her husband, Edward Walters Grier, died in 1967.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas E., married to Dorothy Frampton Grier of Quarryville, 
Lawrence B., married to Judy Peace Grier of Downingtown, H. Carlton, married to 
Margaret Wright Grier of Tarboro, N.C., and John of Lancaster; a daughter, Gloria J., 
married to Wayne T. Pierce of Oxford; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson; a sister, Alice Baker; and a brother, 
Lawrence Baker.
