John D. Nichols was the son of David Nichols, Sr. and Celia Blashfield and the
husband of Sarah Christie. He was a bookseller, news dealer, and newspaper editor.
He was most famous as an abolitionist who put his life at great risk by operating an
'Underground Railroad' station from his home in Springfield, Clark Co, OH. His efforts
assisted large numbers of fugitive slaves on their way to freedom in Canada. He died
in Indiana, but was buried in Clark County, Ohio.
