GILMAN — Marietta V. Albee, 101, of Gilman, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday (July 20, 2015) 
at Faith Place in Danforth. 

 Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Gilman with 
the Rev. Malcolm Jones officiating. Burial will be in Brenton Cemetery, Piper City. 
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made 
to the United Methodist Church, Gilman, or Gilman American Legion Auxiliary. 

 Marietta was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Patoka, to Archibald William and Prudence 
Eunice Belcher Underwood. She graduated from Piper City High School and was its 
oldest alumnus. Marietta attended Bradley University in Peoria. 

 She married Francis R. Albee on Sept. 29, 1934, in Milford. He died Feb. 13, 1999. 

 Marietta is survived by her daughter, Sally Legan, Gilman; two grandchildren, Greg 
(Peggy) Legan, Murphysboro, and Susie (Steve Holsapple) Legan, Gilman; three 
great-grandchildren, Jack (Cortney) Legan, Equality; Joe Legan, Knoxville, Tenn.; and 
Katie Legan, Carbondale; her first great-great-grandson, Beau Legan, who arrived July 
21, 2015; and goddaughter, Cindy Bargmann Miller. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son-in-law, Jack Legan. 

 Marietta was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gilman and church circles. 
She was a bookkeeper for Albee's Texaco. Marietta was a member of the Gilman 
American Legion Auxiliary and Woman's Club. She was an avid fan of the Chicago 
Cubs, Bulls and Illini basketball. Marietta had a passion for reading.
