Edith Wright Brownell
Edith Wright Brownell, clubwoman, was born at Schuyler, Nebraska, August 30, 1886,
daughter of Henry Chester and Carrie Elizabeth (Sumner) Wright. Her father, who was
born at Hyde Park, Vermont, January 21, 1847, was a lumberman. He died at
Schuyler, on March 14, 1922. His wife, Carrie Elizabeth, was born at Appleton
(McLain's Mills), Maine, June 28, 1853, and died at Schuyler, September 13, 1922.
She served a three year term as first president of the Schuyler Civic Club. She was
grand matron and grand treasurer of the Order of Eastern Star of Nebraska, and had
ten ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War. John Howland, Mayflower
passenger and Elizabeth Tilley, were among her forebears.
Upon the completion of her elementary education it, the Schuyler grade school, Edith
Wright attended Schuyler High School from which she was graduated in 1904. From
September, 1904, until June, 1906, she attended the University of Nebraska, where
she was a member of Delta Gamma.
On October 2, 1912, she was united in marriage to Rainsford Ormond Brownell, at
Schuyler. Mr. Brown ell was born at Liverpool, England, February 8, 1882, and is
engaged in the banking business. They have one daughter, Winifred Edith, born July
10, 1913.
Mrs. Brownell is a Republican, and a member of the Daughters of the American
Revolution, and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She organized, and was first
secretary of the local chapter of the Red Cross, and is a past president of the Civic
Club of Schuyler. She is also a member of the Eastern Star, and of Holy Trinity
Episcopal Church and the Woman's Auxiliary. Residence: Schuyler.
