Obituary - Manitoulin Expositor - July 16, 1942 -
William Morphet
One of the early settlers of this community passed away in the death of Mr. William 
Morphet in Little Current on Sunday, July 5th. He would have been 73 years of age on 
July 21st; and he spent most of his life on Manitoulin Island.
The late William Morphet was born in Collingwood Township, Grey County. At the age 
of six, he came to the Island with his parents, Mr.and Mr s. Robert Morphet, who 
settled near Little Current on the farm now occupied by Mr. Albert Morphet.
Starting at the age of sixteen, he spent many years in the bush and on the lakes, and 
here began his knowledge of bushcraft, his great love for the water, and his almost 
unequaled knowledge of the intricate waters of the North channel, his interest in 
which continued unabated until the beginning of his last illness.
In 1897 he was married to Miss Esther Wheeler, of Ravena, Collingwood Township. 
Thirty-one years ago they moved from their first farm to that now occupied by his son 
Allan. Here they lived until, in the autumn of 1939, they moved into Little Current.
He leaves to mourn his widow and a family of two daughters, May (Mrs. Timmins) and 
Isabell, of Little Current; and four sons, Roy, Oscar,All an and Edwin, all living in or 
near Little Current; also sixteen grandchildren. His three brothers, John, Jonathon and 
Albert also live in or near Little Current.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, July 7th to Mountain View Cemetery. The 
pallbearers were Robert Morphet. Nelson Morphet, Floyd Morphet,Alfred Morphet, 
Burton Nelder, Gordon Hogg.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. F. Morphet, Miss Lillian 
Morphet, Mrs. H. Richardson, Miss Helen Hogg, Mr. and Mrs. G.H ogg and Mrs. Perrin 
all of Collingwood.
