DOAN Sarah Severns Chambers Doan, age 87, of Sunbury, died peacefully on 
Saturday, July 7, 2007. Born March 14, 1920, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Mary 
Florence Wert Chambers and Charles Hunter Chambers who predeceased her, as did 
her brother Raymond (Chet), and her husband of 50 years Joseph H. Doan. Sarah 
(Sally) graduated from Shippensburg (PA) College with a B.S. in Education and spent 
42 years as a school teacher and principal. Her love for animals, history, reading, and 
the environment was existential. Survived by Alma Mae Chambers Groninger, sister; 
Mary Groninger Spivey and Susan Groninger, nieces; David L. Groninger, Walter J. 
Groninger, Thomas R. Chambers, Charles D. Chambers, and Joseph P. Chambers, 
nephews. Sally was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Westerville, the State of 
Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Westerville New Horizons Retired Teachers 
group, Friends of the Community Library (Sunbury), and the World Wildlife Federation. 
She was also an author, and co-authored Voices of the Parish, a publication of St. 
Paul's Lutheran Church. Family and friends are invited to gather at St. Paul's Lutheran 
Church on Monday, July 23, 2007, at 7 p.m. to commemorate the lives of Sally and 
Joe. Because of their love of animals and nature, contributions can be made in their 
names to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 State Route 37 East, 
Delaware, Ohio 43015 and to the landscape fund at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 4686 
E. Walnut Street, Westerville, Ohio 43081 (614-882-7601).
