Eloise F. HOLMAN

Eloise Holman died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 31st, and started
on her next adventure with her Maker. Her 87 full years began in West Seattle on
December 8, 1913. She is the second of three daughters born to Alta and Wyatt
Ferguson. Her sisters, Virginia Wheat and Vallejo Prince, both of Seattle,
predeceased her. Notwithstanding many years of Parkinson's Disease and other
physical infirmities, Eloise enjoyed her life, and the lives of many family and
friends, to the fullest, and was blessed by many caregivers. She graduated from
Garfield High School in 1930, attended the University of Washington and was a
member of the Tri Delt sorority. An adventurer from the beginning of her life,
Eloise recuperated from polio in 1937 by traveling with her close friend, Dorothy
Myers, on a Dutch steamer around the world visiting Africa, India and Southeast
Asia. Throughout her life she loved to fish and hunt, ride horses, and travel the
Northwest beaches, and enjoyed each of these ventures with the company of
family and friends. Family and friends remember her for her open home [Lake
Forest Park, Iron Springs and Seattle] and welcoming spirit, and gentle way of
making not only her own friends welcome, but those of her children and friends
who became a part of her circle and personal interest. Eloise will be remembered
for her creativity (water colors, burl tables and the Northwest Beachcomber),
love of the outdoors and spark of life. She will also be remembered for her
graceful and remarkable way of adapting and making the best of adversity. Eloise
spent fifty full and fruitful years with her husband [and second grade dancing
partner], Francis E. Holman, who predeceased her in 1991. She is survived by her
three children, Virginia Holman Schmidt, Frank W. Holman and Wendy Holman;
her three grandsons [and heirs of her love of fishing], Nicholas J. Holman,
Benjamin E. Holman and Stefan W. Schmidt.; her daughter-in-law, Patricia S.
Holman, and son-in-law, Bernd Schmidt; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr.
Colin and Kay Holman, brother-in-law, Kenneth Prince, sister-in-law, Emily
Holman, and sister-in-law, Nancy Ann Holman; and many beloved nieces,
nephews and dear friends. A Memorial Celebration will be held Wednesday,
Seattle. Memorials may be made to the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation and
American Parkinson's Disease Assn.
