Carol Jane Child Burdette, age 42, died of a pulmonary embolism on Thursday, May 
20, 1993 in Redlands. 

 A native of Ogden, Utah, she was a 12-year resident of Redlands. She grew up in 
Salt Lake City, attended BYU, received a BA Degree from the U of U and did graduate 
study at Riverside Community College where she excelled in computer graphic arts, 
was on the Dean's Scholarship List, and was honored as the most outstanding student 
in the Graphic Arts Department. 

 Carol founded Citrus Belt Quilters, a large organization of quilters in the California 
Inland Empire area, and had taught and lectured widely in southern California. Her 
original works are well-known in art and craft circles in Utah and California. Active 
member of the LDS Church, holding leadership positions and teaching in all the 
women's auxiliary organizations. 

 Survivors include a daughter and six sons, Sally, Jacob, Blake, Clint, and Joey 
Burdette, all of Redlands; Robert and Austin Burdette, both Salt Lake City; brother, 
Thomas Robert Child, Salt Lake City; and her mother and stepfather, Hortense Child 
Smith and Eldred G. Smith of Salt Lake City. 

 Funeral services were held in Redlands on Tuesday, May 25th. Additional services in 
Salt Lake City on Friday, May 28th, at 12 noon, Larkin Sunset Lawn Chapel, 2350 
East 1300 South, where friends may call Friday, 10-11:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake 
City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Burdette Scholarship Fund may 
be sent to: Hortense C. Smith, 2942 Devonshire Circle, S.L.C., Utah 84108.
