Prominent Salt Lake City native dies in California. 

 Lenessa Tingey Rumel died of natural causes June 29,1998 in St. Helena, California 
surrounded by her daughter and family. 

 She was born to Lehi Needham and Gertrude Smith Tingey in Salt Lake City, Utah 
March 8, 1911. Except for brief periods living elsewhere she was a lifelong resident of 
Salt Lake City. She graduated from West High School where she was active in 
dramatics and social activities, and attended the University of Utah where she was 
affiliated with Pi Phi Sorority. She married photographer Hal Rumel December 24, 
1934. They had one child. Hal died March 19, 1980. 

 Lenessa was active in many social organizations: She was Executive Director and 
later, President of the Salt Lake Council of the National Girl Scouts of America. She 
was a member of the Salt Lake City Junior League and of the National Assistance 
League. She was one of ten winners of a medal for excellence in photography from 
The Photographic Society of America. For many years she and her husband Hal had a 
summer photographic studio near the rim of Bryce Canyon National Park. After the 
death of her husband she lived alone in a home high on the North Avenues 
surrounded by flowers and pictures. She loved gardening, beautiful things and the 
Southwestern United States. 

 She is survived by her daughter, Linda Rumel Rose; son-in-law, Garry Rose; 
grandson, Michael; one brother, Ralph L. Tingey and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 Funeral services will be held at Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at 12 Noon at Larkin Mortuary, 
260 East South Temple. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery next to her 
husband Hal.
