Douglas Duanne Stewart, was born April 6, 1919, in Grand Junction, Colorado. at the 
age of three months, his parents Esther Josephine Nichols and Alfred Duanne Stewart 
moved to Salt Lake City where he resided the remainder of his life. He passed away 
September 28, 1996 on his eldest grandsons birthday. 

He graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah in the 
school of Engineering. Doug enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 1941. On November 
14, 1942, he married Charlotte Marilyn Margetts. He was an aviation cadet at the 
outbreak of WWII, was commissioned on officer in November of 1942, and two years 
later was assigned duty to the Naval Air Transport Services in the Pacific/Asian 
Theater of War. 

Upon his honorable discharge from military service, he returned to Salt Lake City 
where he joined Sumner G. Margetts Company, an engineering and land reclamation 
firm, and subsequently became owner. He received national recognition for his work 
with soil and water conservation projects in the Western U.S. He served as the 
Director of the Division of the Great Salt Lake for the State of Utah. 

Member of the Alta Club, Salt Lake Country Club, and various military affiliations. 
Former Board member of Insur-America, Inc., and the Porter Fork Summer Home 
Association where he enjoyed many hours with his family and friends. His wonderful 
sense of humor, jolly nature, and multitude of kindnesses will leave a vacancy in our 
lives. His tremendous love and affection for his mother-in-law will be remembered 
forever. 

He and his loving wife Cherie have five children: Douglas D. Stewart, Jr. (Dianne), 
Sumner Margetts Stewart (Margie), Charlotte "Mimi" Stewart, Elizabeth Walton (John), 
and Stephanie Moyle Stewart; seven grandchildren, Douglas D. Stewart, III, Stephen 
Moyle Stewart, Michael James Stewart, Emily Margaret Stewart, Elizabeth Moyle 
Stewart, John W. Walton, Jr., and Rebecca E. Walton: and three step-grandchildren, 
Andrea Nevin, Cameron D. Thomson, and R. Clint Thomson; and brother, Ralph N. 
Stewart (Carol)., Bremerton, Wa. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 12 Noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 
East South Temple where friends may call Tuesday evening 6:30 to 7:30, and 
Wednesday one hour prior to funeral services. 

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Douglas D. 
Stewart to Primary Children's Medical Center,100 N. Medical Dr., SLC, 84113 or the 
Humane Society of Utah, 4242 So 300 West, Murray, UT 84107.
