 769  LAWRENCE HOBSON SWAYNE (9), born 9.18.1919, died May 6,
1945 in Czechoslovakia, son of 555 William Hamilton Swayne & Mabel K. Hobson 
of Fairville, Chester Co., Pa.  West Chester Daily Local News and Kennett
News & Advertiser say he was born in Fairville Sep. 19, 1919, one day later
than the date given by his uncle, attended Kennett Consolidated School, en-
tered the army June 7, 1941, was sent overseas Aug. 1944, won the Purple
Heart, also the Silver Star for gallantry at Remagen Bridge, was killed by
a sniper two days before the end of the war in Europe and buried in U. S.
were funeral services from his parents' home, followed by interment at Long-
wood, where the army escort gave the casket flag to his mother.  He was a
Staff Sergeant.
