          John Howard Joyce, 73, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at home in 
Brady Texas . He was born November 24, 1936 to Berry Milton (Pete) and Mattie 
Elizabeth (Russell) Joyce in Salt Gap, Texas. John grew up around the Salt Gap/Pear 
Valley community and graduated from Lohn High School where he was a quarterback 
of the football team. He entered the Navy in 1955. where he served his country for 12 
years active duty and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1996. He married Ina Mae 
Obenchain of Menard on December 24, 1959 in San Angelo. They shared 50 years 
and 4 months of marriage. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and playing forty–
two dominos. He liked to listen to all kinds of music and always wanted to go to 
Alaska. He always had a smile was a good listener and told wonderful stories. He will 
be missed dearly as he was loved by many. He is survived by his wife, Ina Joyce of 
Brady; son, Chris Joyce of Brownwood; daughter, Terri Joyce of Austin; son, Barry 
Joyce of Zephyrhills, Florida; daughter, Kelly Demel and husband Matt of Houston. 
Four grandchildren , Justin, Joshua and Caroline Demel, and Amber Joyce; Sister, 
Grace Hardman and husband, Harold of Richland Springs; and brother, Darrell Joyce 
of Richland Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in 
death by his parents and brother Milton Ray Joyce. Visitation will be Monday, May 3, 
2010 from 1-2 pm at Heritage Funeral Homes in Brady. Funeral services will be held 
Monday, May 3 at 2:00 pm Interment to follow at Pear Valley Cemetery.
