to Cal, went to school in LA, then Long Beach Polytechnic High School, and USC. 
lettered in football, baseball, basketball and track in HS, USC on track scholarship but 
converted tit to baseball, capt of 1934 team, won two Pacific Coast championships, 
center fielder, signed with Portland Beavers June 1934, refused to be sent down to 
Omaha, turned to umpiring, in minors umpired with Jocko Conlan. Had 2 children
Per Jackson Stewart tree on ancestry, photo is of him in Nov 1940, before his first 
season in the American League (as an umpire)
