Hazel E. Rau, 78, died Thursday in Baltimore County General Hospital. She was the
wife of the late William B. Rau Sr. Survivors include daughter, Joan D. Hertsch of
here; son, William B. Jr. of Westminster, and a grandson.

William B. Rau Jr., 82, of Westminster, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Transitions in
Sykesville.
Born May 31, 1930, he was the son of the late William "Boyd" Rau Sr. and Bertie
Feidler Rau. He was the husband of Lillian Ann Rau.
Before retiring, he was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years. He was
a member of the Sharon Masonic Lodge, Littlestown Eagles, Disabled American
Veterans Auxillary and Westminster Volunteer Fire Department. He was a life member
of the Maryland State Fire Chief Association, NALC Oriole Branch 176.
He enjoyed going to the Bonnie Blink Daylight Lodge, visiting the firehouse, mowing
grass and reading the paper. He was a former member of Woodlawn Fire Department.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son William B. "Bill" Rau III and wife Jan, of
Hampstead; a sister, Joan D. Hertsch, of Mount Airy; three grandsons; and two great-
grandsons.
He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, George "Ed" Hertsch.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fletcher Funeral
& Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, where a Westminster Volunteer
Fire Department memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. and Masonic services at 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the
Rev. Wallace Lusk officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Cemetery.
