The Rev. Earl Tyson, 88, of West Chester, a former student minister at the First 
Presbyterian Church of Darby, died March 13 at home. 

Born in Philadelphia, he graduated in 1933 from Girard College. After working in 
business and serving in the U.S. Army, he attended and graduated from Reformed 
Episcopal Seminary in 1950 and Temple University in 1954. He was ordained a 
Presbyterian minister by the Presbytery of Philadelphia. 

While attending college, he served as student minister at the First Presbyterian Church 
of Darby. Upon ordination, he became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of 
Kensington, Philadelphia. Other churches he served were pastor of the Friendship 
Presbyterian Church of Hialeah, Fla., and Parish Associate of the Grace Covenant 
Presbyterian Church in Orlando, Fla. 

He retired from the active ministry after serving 44 years, but continued to help 
whenever he could as interim pastor or supply preaching. He was preceded in death 
by his parents, Earl and Ida Tyson and sister, Eleanor Tyson Clark. 

Survivors: Wife of 34 years, Ellen MacBride Tyson also cousins, nieces, nephews and 
great nieces and nephews. 

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Darby, Fourth and Main 
streets, Darby. 

Visitation: After 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. 

Burial: Arlington Cemetery, Upper Darby.

19023 or First Presbyterian Church of Kensington, 418 E. Girard Ave., Philadelphia, 
PA 19125 or to a charity of your choice.
