Eliene Bundy March 3, 1922 - December 28, 2007 Daughter of Oscar Soderling and 
Ebba Chelin, born and raised in Duluth, MN. Eliene was a rebellious spirit. At age 19 
she left home to work in a munitions factory in Alaska, and came to the Bay Area a 
year later in 1942, where she married Elroy L. Bundy, also of Duluth. They settled in 
Berkeley where Roy joined the UC Berkeley faculty as a classics professor. After their 
divorce she finished her education at Cal, and taught high school English in the Marin 
public schools. A longtime educational activist, Eliene's most lasting contribution was 
co-founding an alternative program at Drake High School in San Anselmo. Eliene 
devoted her retirement to creating sculpture and satisfying her insatiable wanderlust. 
She brought steely determination to every cause, whether it was tree planting in her 
neighborhood, raising money for relief in Nicaragua, or pushing for a pedestrian bridge 
across I-80 in Berkeley. Eliene gave selflessly to her family. She is survived by her son 
Adam of Berkeley; her daughter Mahala, and son-in-law, Steve Heminger of San 
Francisco; grandchildren, Anne and Sam Heminger; and two of her brothers, Robert 
Soderling of Duluth, MN, and John Soderling of Grant's Pass, OR. She will be sorely 
missed by her many friends and relatives. A memorial gathering will be arranged.
