George Philip Fagan on the morning of December 14th, 2005, George Philip Fagan
passed away after a long illness. He was born in Phoenix in 1924 to John Jay and
Helen Hirst Fagan and was proud to be a second generation native Arizonan. Growing
up, he loved team sports and lettered in football, basketball and baseball at North
Phoenix High School. As an adult he played golf, polo and tennis and became an avid
Diamondbacks fan. He and his wife Barbara raised Arabian horses (in addition to their
three children!) and learned and thoroughly enjoyed dressage riding later in life. Phil
served his country as a night fighter pilot, with the rank of Major, during WWII and
afterward in the National Guard. After the war, he attended Phoenix College and then
becoming a general contractor, developer and consultant in the construction industry.
His housing developments in Phoenix and Prescott reflect his skills for fitting houses
into hillsides and preserving the desert ecology. Ocotillo Hills in Phoenix and Vista del
Cerro in Prescott are two examples of his talent. He is pre-deceased by brother, John
Fagan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Fagan of Prescott; brother,
Robert Fagan and his wife Marjorie of Portal; sister, Harriet Johnston of Portal,
Geraldine Fagan of Alpine, widow of John. In addition, he leaves behind his son,
Timothy Fagan MD and his wife Mary of Tucson; daughter, Carol Dombey and her
husband Craig of Prescott; son, Larry Fagan and his wife Donna of Prescott;
grandsons, Ian Fagan, Daniel Dombey and Ryan Fagan and granddaughters, Darcy
Dombey, Elissa Carter and Sarah Mackie.
There will be a private family service in Phoenix at the National Veteran's Memorial
Cemetery in North Phoenix with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests
donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL
60601-7633 or to the Margaret T. Morris Center, 878 Sunset Ave., Prescott, AZ
86305. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home.
