Edward Townsend, Ex-Official Of First Boston Corporation

Edward Townsend, retired senior vice president and director of the First Boston
Corporation, the investment-banking concern, died Saturday at his home in Lloyd
Neck, L.I. He was 73 years old.
Mr. Townsend joined First Boston in 1946, after serving as an Army ordnance major in
Washington in World War II.
He was elected a vice president of First Boston in 1955 and became a senior vice
president in 1964. He retired in 1977.
From 1978 to 1980, Mr. Townsend was president of the Metropolitan Opera Club. At
his death was chairman of the Peoples' Symphony Concerts, one of the oldest musical
institutions in New York. It sponsors recitals and chamber performances.
Mr. Townsend was born in Manhattan. He was a graduate of Yale University and
studied at the Ecole des Sciences Politiques in Paris.
Surviving are his wife, the former Felicia Thomas; two daughters, Valoise Hodgkins of
Lake Forest, Ill., and Victoria Roschen of Bedford, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Lydia De
Sanctis of Rome; a stepson, Jose Andrade of Manhattan; a sister, Adelaide Angell of
Portland, Ore.; a brother, Barnard, of Manhattan, and eight grandchildren.
