Gwyneth was born in Palo Alto in 1962, daughter of the late Gail Disney and late 
David Thomas. She lived in New Zealand, Pennsylvania and Maine. Graduated from 
George Stevens Academy and returned to Philadelphia to pursue a fine arts degree at 
the Philadelphia College of Art. After her studies she lived in New York City and New 
Jersey continuing to pursue art and working towards purchasing land in Maine. She 
bought her house in Penobscot at age twenty four and spent the rest of her life 
improving it while raising her three boys.
She was an artist with many talents including painting, sculpture, stone carving and 
making dried flower wreaths. She worked as an interior painter and carpenter for local 
renovation projects. She was an avid reader, loved horses, dogs and cats. She 
enjoyed playing ice hockey, skating on Walker pond, pitching softball for the Holy 
Mackerels and playing pickle ball with local teams.
Gwyneth was a seasonal caretaker for Helen Nearing and later a founding steward of 
the Good Life Center. She could make anything, fix everything and always had a 
solution to your problem. Those who knew Gwyneth admired her masterful focus, 
attention to detail and frugal nature. She was persistent, loyal and generous, 
remaining private and independent to the end. 
She is survived by her sons Rowan, Meredith and Emery, her sisters Megan, Emile, 
Deirdre and Caitlin, her step-parents Jeanne and Tom, her Uncle Shawn, her Aunts 
Patsy and Maureen and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Gwyneth Thomas 
Family Fund has been set up at Bar Harbor Banking and Trust to support her boys. 
There will be a private burial in Harborside, Maine and a Memorial Art Show later this 
year.
