Virginia Ruth (Hamilton) Trexler, 77, of "White Oaks," Box 294,
Huntingdon, R.R. 2, died unexpectedly at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2,
2006, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. Born
June 9, 1928, in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late E.E.
Hamilton. D.D.S. and Ruth (Detweiler) Hamilton. She was united in
marriage to John Peter Trexler. Ph.D., Jan. 29, 1950, in the Allentown
Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Dr. Walter Eastwood. Dr. Trexler
survives at home. Mrs. Trexler is also survived by two daughters,
Margaret (Trexler) Hessen, M.D., and husband, Scott E., M.D., of Bryn
Mawr; and Virginia Pennock Trexler-Myren, V.M.D., and husband, the
Honorable Scott P. Myren, J.D., of Pierre, S.D.; and four grandchildren, 
Scott Trexler Hessen and David Hamilton Hessen of Bryn Mawr and
Tessa Hamilton Trexler Myren and Isabel Maule Trexler Myren of Pierre,
S.D. She is also survived by three sisters, Clarice (Hamilton) Hall and
husband, Robert W., Glen Mills; Lenore (Hamilton) Hanson and husband,
Marvin, Southern Pines, N.C.: and Joan Hamilton, Boston, Mass. Mrs.
Trexler was a member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, where she
had served the congregation as an elder. She was a member, past president 
and former board member of the Friends of the Huntingdon County
Library and a former member of AAUW and the League of Women Voters. A
life- long Republican, she was also a member of the Huntingdon County
Dental Society. A 1946 graduate and class salutatorian of Allentown
High School, Mrs. Trexler also graduated as valedictorian at Cedar
Crest College in 1951. She was also a 1954 graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, where she was a member of the Cryer
Honor Society and the only woman among a class of 150 students. Mrs.
Trexler briefly practiced dentistry and co-authored numerous
professional papers with her father while residing in Allentown. An
accomplished watercolor, oil and pen and ink artist, her works were
shown at several local shows. Mrs. Trexler enjoyed reading, horseback
riding, sailing, swimming and canoeing, particularly at Lake George,
N.Y., where she and her family shared many vacations. She had a great
interest in British history and travel, particularly to the British
Isles, where she was able to practice her avocation of genealogical
study of her family’s roots in Scotland and its subsequent settlement of
southeastern Pennsylvania with the William Penn family. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the Huntingdon
Presbyterian Church, Fifth and Mifflin streets, Huntingdon, with the
Rev. Leslie Papp officiating. Interment will be made in the Faggs
Manor Cemetery, Londonderry Township, Chester County.
