article in 1 Mar 1945 Lewiston (Me.) Daily Sun: "Lt. Norman Archer Taylor, former 
Twin City tennis singles champion, is reported killed in a plane crash last October in 
the Pacific area. Taylor was a Colby graduate in the clas of 1934, being captain of the 
tennis team and a member of the State intercollegiate doubles team.
"He was born in Skowhegan in 1912, the son of the late John E. Taylor and Rena 
Archer Taylor, both Colby graduates. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marita N. 
Taylor and their small daughter, who live in New Haven, Conn.
"Following his graduation from Colby Taylor taught school in Maine and enlisted in 
July, 1943.
"In 1935 he attended Summer school at Bates and won the Twin City tennis 
championship of that year, defeating Francis K. Purinton in the final round. In the 
semi-final he had met and defeated Clifton W. Jones of Pittsburgh, an ex-Bates tennis 
captain who had been his rival in college and who had defeated him earlier for the 
State intercollegiate singles crown."
