Enrolled in army on 1 Sept 1864 at Springfield, Mass, as a private in the 30th company 
unattached Mass. He was an armorer. He was discharged at Fort C.F. Smith, VA, June 
16, 1865, still a private.

Personal description: hazel eyes, sandy hair, light complexion, height 5'8".

In military records, he is said to have lived in Worcester, MA until about 1880, then in 
Oxford, 1882, Millbury in 1884, Northbridge 1885?, Grafton 1902.

Military Records: Affidavits by several people claim he is a man of good habits, strictly 
temperate. And that "in December of 1886, while assisting in placing a water wheel in 
position, he sustained an injury which resulted in a bad case of hernia, since which he 
has been unable to do any but light work." Also that "his affliction rheumatism and 
inguinal hernia are not due to vicius habits."

From his obituary: "Was at one time a woolen manufacturer and later a cotton mill 
superintendent.
 Mr. Owen was born in East Douglas,MA and was one of a family of seven children. 
His parents were Benjamin and Harriette Owen. When a boy he moved with his 
parents from East Douglas and, for a time they lived in Worcester, Lowlow, and 
Springfield. It was while he lived in Springfield that he responded to his country's call 
and enlisted in 30th Massachusetts heavy artillery. For a time he was engaged in the 
manufacturing of woolen in Worcester. Retiring from this, he took up the cotton work, 
and for many years was superintendent for the John Rhodes 
ManufacturingCo.,Millbury.
 Besides his wife, Harriet M. Robbins Owen, he is survived by one brother, George 
Owen, Dover, N.H, one sister,Etta (Mrs. Edward Walker) of Worcester, and three 
sons: Oscar L. and Henry A Owen of Whitinsville, and Herbert W. Owen of Dover, 
N.H. The bearers were his three sons and his two nephews, George E.Owen of 
Whitinsville, and Clarence Owen of RI.
