Louis Lichtenberg was born at Hanover in Buena Vista County, Ia, April 14, 1920, the
son of Louis Carl and Emma Tolzin Lichtenberg. He was raised at Hanover and
recieved his education in the Hanover Lutheran School and Alta High School. After
his schooling he moved to Storm Lake and was employed in the meat packing
industry.
During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps, being
discharged in 1945.
On June 30, 1946, Louis was united in marriage with Shirley Maule at Fairmont,
Minn.
Since 1959, the Lichtenbergs had lived in Denison where Louis was employed at
IBP from 1960, until retiring due to failing health, in 1980. Since his retirement he has
resided at his home in Denison except for the past two months when he resided at the
Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap.
Louis died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 1987, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in
Council Bluffs. At the time of his death, he had attained the age of 67 years, 3 months
and 19 days.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, and a former member of
the Denison VFW.
Louis was preceded in death by he parents, three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Lichtenberg of Denison; two sons, Terry
Lichtenberg at home in Denison, and James Lichtenberg and his wife, Mary, of Elk
Point, SD; one daughter Mary of Escondido, CA; four grandchildren, Jeremy of Elk
Point, SD, Melinda of Escondido, CA, Maria and Michelle of Denver, CO, and three
great grandchildren, Joshua of Escondido, and Martin and Ashley of Denver, Co. Also
surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Following a visitation on Saturday, August 22, 1987, at the Pfannebecker Funeral
Home in Denison, Louis was cremated.
