finally in Elizabeth City, where he met his future wife of 63 years, Allie Rives (Vicki)
Bell. They were married on May 11, 1947, in North Carolina and moved to Des Moines,
Iowa, in November following Hartman's honorable discharge. He attended Drake

the Masonic Lodge, a past exalted ruler of the Corvallis Elks Club 1413 (1978-79), and
was an active member of the Albany American Legion where he enjoyed playing bingo.
