Mary L. Handy, daughter of George and Martha (Brown) Handy of Ray, Indiana, was 
born Aug. 6, 1871 and died March 21, 1940, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 15 
days. 

Mary was married to Dr. Duncan McTaggart on Dec. 26, 1895 and the couple had one 
daughter, Mrs. Bessie Straw, of Naperville, Ill.

Mary was a member of the Baptist Church at Clear Lake. She received her education 
in the Ray district school, Hillsdale college and Tri-State Normal school at Angola. 
After studying under Prof. King in Philadelphia, she taught elocution at Tri-State for 
some time. She was county president of the W.C.T.U. at one time and president of the 
local Ray union for many years.

Surviving her are her aged husband; one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Straw, and two 
grandchildren, Margaret and Betty Straw of Naperville, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Lida 
Duguid of Ray; nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Frank Handy and Henry Spencer Handy.

Funeral services were held at the Clear Lake Baptist Church and assisted by Rev. 
Claud Pyles, pastor of the M.E. Church in Ray. Flower bearers were members of the 
Clear Lake Ladies Aid, of the Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Burial in 
Ray Cemetery.
