Mr. James W. Brown, Sr. 76, of Cortland, N.Y., passed away on January 20, 2016. 
Born March 20,1939 in Hornell, James was the son of Ernest and Evelyn Stoddard 
Brown. Jim had received an Associates Degree in both Accounting and Business 
Administration. He was employed as as Police Officer in Johnson City and then 
relocated to Cortland to work for NYSEG as a cost accountant, he then went on to be 
employed for many years as a Sergeant with the Cortland County Sheriff's Department. 
Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the New York 
Yankees, New York Giants and Syracuse University Basketball. He is survived by his 
son; James W. Brown, Jr. of Cortland and three daughters; Debbie Blondell of 
Wyoming, N.Y., Kelly (George) Slack of Rochester and Amy Foster of Cortland, two 
brothers; Ernest Brown, Jr. of Connecticut and Douglas (Carol) Brown of N. Carolina, a 
sister; Diana (Paul) Woodruff of Binghamton, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 
several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by a sister; Gwen Peters on 
November 7, 2014 and by his wife; Sandra C. Brown on December 11, 2014. The 
family will be present to receive friends on Monday February 1, 2016 from 6 p.m.- 8 
p.m. in the Chapel of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St., Cortland, N.Y. Visitation 
will be held at this time for both James and his wife Sandra, who passed in December 
of 2014. There are no services scheduled. Burial in the spring will be private and at 
the families convenience. Contributions in James memory may be made to Disabled 
Army Veterans National Office P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.
