Kezia (Kay) Ardele Brooks went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on
September 9, 2011. Kay was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 7, 1917 to Lizzie May
and Edward Reed. She was the youngest daughter in a family of 11 girls and 1 boy.
She married her sweetheart and best friend, Walter, in 1939 and they had 64
wonderful years together. She was a military wife who loved to travel with Walt.
During those years they saw most of the 50 states and spent a year in Japan.
After retiring, they continued to travel, including an unforgettable trip to Alaska. Kay
worked as a teacher/assistant principal at a pre-school in Georgia in the 1960's,
which gave her great joy. Upon moving to Colorado, she became involved in Christian
Women's Club and hosted in-home Bible studies for many years.
Kay spent the last part of her life at Emeritus at Broadmoor, where she was loved by
both staff and her many new friends. She instilled a love of the Lord in her daughters,
and reflected his grace to her family throughout the years.
Kay was a great wife, mother, and friend. She enjoyed 94 years of life, leaving 2
daughters, 3 granddaughters, 4 great-granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, 1 great-
great-granddaughter, one son-in-law, her beloved poodle, and many friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Evergreen
Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The family would like to acknowledge Kay's passing with a celebration of her life at
Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel, at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011,
with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs. A reception will follow
at Emeritus at Broadmoor.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Kay's name to Pikes Peak
Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado, or to the staff
appreciation fund at Emeritus at Broadmoor, 615 Southpointe Court, Colorado Springs,
Colorado, 80906. Online condolences may be made to evergreenfuneralhome.org.
