Robert C. Hurd 


NORTHUMBERLAND — Robert C. Hurd, 87, was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on 
Monday, Dec. 1, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Northumberland, where he lived a 
simple and faithful life. 

 Born Sept. 2, 1927, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Clifford and Robertena 
(Rice) Hurd. 

 He was a graduate of South Glens Falls Central School, Class of 1946. 

 Robert worked for many years in the South Glens Falls Senior High and Ballard Road 
schools as head custodian and bus driver. He retired in 1984. In his retirement, he 
worked part-time for Clark Funeral Home for 10 years. 

 In his younger years, Robert was in the 4-H Club. He enjoyed having a garden, 
traveling to Maine, especially York Beach, fishing, hunting and campfires. He was a 
past member of the former Gansevoort Lodge No. 845, a member of the Unity Lodge 
No. 23, charter member of Gansevoort Volunteer Fire Department and was a one-time 
fire commissioner of Gansevoort Fire Department. 

 Robert was a member of Fortsville United Methodist Church. 

 Survivors are the many now-saddened hearts he touched: Dear cousin, Leneta 
"Neta" Gamache and family; special friends, Rick and Laura Critcher and family; along 
with many other cousins and friends. 

 At Robert's request, there will be no calling hours. 

 A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Fortsville United 
Methodist Church, 402 Fortsville Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831, with the Rev. Paul 
Dufford, pastor, officiating. 

 Burial will be in the spring at Gansevoort Cemetery. 

 Donations in Robert's memory may be made to Gansevoort Fire Department, P.O. Box 
172, Gansevoort, NY 12831; or Moreau Emergency Squad Inc., 1583 state Route 9, 
Fort Edward, NY 12828.
