Edward Stillman Boyce
SCHUYLERVILLE - Edward Stillman Boyce, 87, a resident of Green Street, died
Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at his home after a brief illness. He was surrounded by
his loving family. He left us to join his beloved wife, "Sugar," on her birthday.
Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Schuylerville, he was the son of the late Spencer J. Boyce Sr.
and Loretta(Cox) Boyce. He was a lifelong resident of Schuylerville.
Mr. Boyce was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific as a
Pharmacist 2nd Mate.
He was a retired employee of the New York State Department of Parks and
Recreation. He was employed as caretaker of the Saratoga Battle Monument for 23
years. He was also a retired employee of Local No. 157 Laborers Union in
Schenectady, N.Y. During summers, he was employed as a Pinkerton at the Saratoga
Race Course. He was also a member of Old Saratoga Post No. 278 American Legion in
Schuylerville.
Edward enjoyed horse racing, casinos, gardening, reading, walking, traveling with his
family and animals, especially dogs. He had a passion for basketball and baseball. He
loved the New York Knicks and the New York Yankees. He played basketball through
high school and semipro basketball post high school. Edward had a special love for
his family and friends. He was especially proud of his children and was a wonderful,
loving and devoted father. He was a gifted poet and he shared this gift with his family
and friends throughout the years, providing them with many wonderful memories.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years,
Catherine "Sugar" Boyce and his loving brothers, Elmer F. Boyce and Spencer J.
Boyce Jr.
Survivors include three sons: Thomas (Mina)Boyce of Glens Falls, Timothy (Holly)
Boyce of Schuylerville and Michael Boyce of Saratoga Springs; three daughters:
Robin (Don) Williams of Saratoga Springs, Jodi (Mark) Schlake of Fayetteville, N.C.
and Colleen (Bob)Trossbach of Schuylerville; one sister, Lillian (Don) Hathaway of
Ballston Spa; 11 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews; a special cousin, James (Morgie) Pierano of Laguna Hills, Calif. and an
extended family of close friends
A funeral service will be held at 9:30a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009, at Flynn Bros.,
Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, with the Rev. Janet Vincent
officiating.
Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
